What Works?: Career Pathways Evidence from What Works ClearinghouseTM Reviews
The What Works ClearinghouseTM (WWC) conducts systematic reviews to assess research evidence on the effectiveness of educational interventions and maintains an online repository of products to help educators make evidence-based decisions. This session features findings from the WWC’s Intervention Report on Integrated Basic Education Skills and Training (I-BEST), based on a review and synthesis of evidence from 12 I-BEST studies. This session also provides an overview of the process the WWC and an expert panel used to develop a Practice Guide on Designing and Delivering Career Pathways at Community Colleges, including a review of 122 studies.

SESSION G | THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8 | 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. EDT
Community College and Adult Education Collaborations to Support IET
Come to this session to learn about collaborations between community colleges and adult education programs in providing integrated education and training (IET) services. Featured are Abt Global’s projects in which three community colleges have partnered with adult education programs within and outside of community colleges to deliver IETs that lead to participants’ earning occupational certificates and placement in employment. We highlight strategies used to develop and carry out successful IETs, lessons learned, and challenges that we addressed.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education convened the Integrated Education and Training (IET) Symposium to address a range of topics concerning adult education providers. Key points included:State and federal agency support would help IET service development and delivery.Adult education providers can facilitate learners’ success by helping them determine whether enrollment in IET services is a good match for their skills, interests, and abilities.Adult education providers’ work with public and private sector employers can be facilitated through coordinated efforts with training and postsecondary education partners.Adult education providers are central to the expansion of IET services and will need a range of supports to be successful.
