Setting a New Health Agenda – at the Nexus of Climate Change, Environment, and Biodiversity
The Prince Mahidol Award Conference (PMAC) is a multi-stakeholder forum that brings together global health experts, policymakers, and practitioners around critical health priorities. The forum enables meaningful technical conversations and collaborations, emphasizing policy and private sector accountability.
This year’s Conference theme explores the Triple Planetary Crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. This crisis has an especially acute impact on underserved populations lacking access to health care and needing enhanced protection from health emergencies.
A sub-theme is “Challenges and Opportunities: Overcoming Challenges and Harnessing Opportunities for Health at the Biodiversity Climate Nexus.” Abt’s Amanda Quintana will be a panelist for the “Inter-sectoral, Multi-sectoral Approaches: Challenges (Part 1)” session, during which she will discuss how health policymakers and stakeholders can use information generated from cost-benefit analysis, co-benefits analysis, and general economic analysis of climate impacts, illustrated by examples from Abt projects. These analyses can help stakeholders and policymakers make informed, evidence-based decisions to demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of climate interventions with dual benefits to public health.
